lets he get a check of our weather with tony perkins. he has the big news today. >> it will be hotter. yesterday, 80 degrees, how about 09 -- 90 today. and then tomorrow, 100. no, just kidding. not a bad start to the morning. for the most part, we're in the 60s. 68degrees in the district. dulles airport, 65 degrees. fredericksburg, virginia is at 69 degrees at this hour. here is a look at the satellite- radar. we remain cloud-free for the most part. there might be a couple of clouds here and there as you look towards the western skies. we are cloud-free and we are going to see a lot of sunshine again today. you see the rainfall up to the north and west. that is a frontal boundary that will get through here eventually and could trigger some showers and thunderstorms late today and during the evening hours as well. so we'll keep an eye on that.

express lanes leaving the prince william parkway. westbound i-70 at 94 and woodbine we have reports of the tractor-trailer possibly overturned. i-70 at 94 shut down until further notice because of this crash. southbound 270 busy on the top side. we have delays approaching and passing 109. no incidents to report leaving germantown to the split. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. new this morning, we're taking a look at live pictures right now from a d.c. neighborhood where one woman has been kicked out of her home and is now desperate it save her belongings that you can see out there that are all scattered around the street over four different blocks. eloisa diaz tells fox 5 she was evicted after losing her job. she says councilmember jim graham brought two trucks by last night and helped hallway

some of the most valuable items out there. we'll have the latest on that in our next half hour. now to some of another top stories we're following today as police are searching for a suspect in the murder of a woman in greenbelt, maryland. she was found dead in an apartment complex on greenbelt road. investigators aren't saying how she died but calls about gunshots did come into 911 just before her body was found. police don't have a suspect or motive at this point. in manassas, police have a 15- year-old in custody after a brutal stabbing at a shopping center. they say to teenages beat an stabbed a photographer who was trying to take pictures of the canterbury village shopping center for the center's owner. people showing up at the mall started blowing their horns and that is when the suspects ran off. the "washington post" is reporting kerry briggs resigned via e-mail last week with just 4 hours notice. school board is said to be stunned by her discussion to

pentagon officials. yesterday was the deadliest helicopter crash for coalition forces in four years. the taliban claims it shot it down but nato says there was no enemy fire. nato is still investigating the crash in a rugged area of southern afghanistan. a new tell-all book about the president's advisors describes them as arguing about policy and turf. the book is by journalist bob woodward and in it, some top members of the president's national security team doubt the afghan strategy will work. divisions at the white house are not secret but woodward suggests they were more than intense than we knew. the become hits stores next monday. the vatican bank under investigation now for fraud. what prompted the fraud and how the holy see is ponding. soy they haven't even been rescued yet but they are already prepping for the media. we'll have the latest on the 33 trapped miners in chile.

hagerstown is at # 4 degrees. off it our east, we have a couple of 70s there. 70 in stevensville. -- hagerstown is at 64 degrees. we have some winds aross the area. these winds are coming to us out of the south. southerly breezes will be bringing that warmer air into our area. it has been warm to our south and west and now we get the pushing high pressure out and moving into our region. take a look at the satellite- radar. this will be of interest as well. mostly sunny skies this morning. you've got clear skies. awe few high clouds up to the north and out to the west. us for, we're pretty much cloud- tree and we will be until hat are today and one the frontal boundary gets closer, it could bring with it some showers and thunderstorms. there is a possible that some of you will see a couple of showers and thunderstorms late today and then during the

evening hours as well. forecast for washington for today looks like this. mostly sunny, hot an humid, late day shower or thunderstorm possible. hook for -- look for a high of 90 degrees. more heat and humidity and for friday, highs into the low 90s. we start to cool off saturday. temperatures in the 80s. could be a shower late on saturday. that is a possibility and then another chance of some showers on sunday with a high on sunday in the mid-70s which is going to lead us into a week next week where we'll see dramatically cooler temperatures certainly as a possibility. that is a look at what is happening with the weather. now, let's get to julie wright and get an update on traffic. >> it is getting business you on the there on the highway especially up in howard county. that is where we'll find the crew in sky fox. accident activity involving an overturned tractor-trailer. that had the roadway blocked along westbound i-70. now, it appears that we do have some traffic squeezing by to the left as you guys travel westbound.

already on. adam shapiro is live in new york with this morning's business beat. let's talked about the fed statement first. now, holding the rates low. it may be good news for people if you are looking to maybe buy a home or something like that. but what does it mean overall? this isn't necessarily a great thing what the fed had to say as well. >> right. the simple answer is that the fed is worried about the economy. it is slowing down and their statement, which is usually written in ancient aramais but is actually in english but hard to understand. i want it read awe a line. measures of underlying inflation are currently at levels smawtd than levels -- what that means is that the fed is worried there is no inflation. they want inflation at about 1 to 2%.

we don't have it. they are word wrid about unemployment. they are concerned about that. -- they are worried about unemployment. this trying to prevent deflation. this is worrying investors worldwide. this indicates they are word wrid about global economic recovery and u.s. economic recovery. >> now, another thing that could be a concern too, we're talking about holiday spending. yes, i cannot believe it. predicts will be coming out soon and they don't necessarily look so great, do they? >> no, deloitte came out yesterday that we would see sales go up 2%. i gaffe a call over to the national retail federation. you can see the numbers right there. they will come out with numbers possibly next week. in 2007, we are at 452 billion. we have fallen almost 0 billion off of that. we still have a long way to go to recover from all of this.

morning when she was hit by a cadillac escalade. police say the driver did not stop at the scene but called later to say she thought she hit a deer. pet tbru held on for a little more than a day before her mother told the doctors to take her off life support. >> i'm empty. i'm lost. i miss her but i did the right thing. i made the decision not to resuscitate when her heart failed. she would not want to have lived in a vegetative state. >> ly police say the driver didn't so far the bike until she arrived home in upp no harms have been filed in the case. other top stories that wear following, the fight to repeal don't ask, don't tell. it look like the military's policy on gay troops will remain in effect for the foreseeable future after an effort to repeal the policy

fell short in the senate. it is a complicated issue. four-star general nominated to be the next commandant of the marine corps opposes lifting don't ask, don't tell. that is in direct conflict with the bosses at the pentagon. >> reporter: at his confirmation hearing before the senate armed services exitedee marine general james olmos says with reservations he would support allowing gays to openly serve in the military. >> i think there is parts of this that we've not peeled back yet and by that, i'm talking some policy issues, some standards of conduct issues, the issue of unit cohesion. we are not quite sure what the impact will be on a all- volunteer force. >> reporter: the defense secretary and chairman of the joint chiefs of staff support repealing don't ask, don't tell and have commissioned a survey of servicemen and women and their families asking what they think. >> this study and this question you're that is being sent out

it is believed more than 1,000 men and women have been kicked out of the military under the law since 1993. consumer groups want salmon that is genetically modified to have special labels. the new salmon has gene from other animals to help them grow fast are but the present rules say the salmon do not require special labels if the government decides they have the same genetic make-up as regular salmon. the d.c. superintendent of education has resigned. the "washington post" is reporting carey brig stepped down via e-mail with just 4 hours notice. the school board is said to be stunned by her decision to leave on such short notice. she says she informed the fair of her plans in mid-august. the washington teacher union is hitting back against comments made by the d.c. school superintendent.
